Eskom’s Load Shedding Suspension Continues Indefinitely

Sustained Power Supply Eskom reports that, as of Wednesday, 17 April 2024, the suspension of load shedding will be maintained. Following a commendable 21-day period of uninterrupted power supply, the utility has successfully kept the lights on for a cumulative 535 hours. This milestone, reminiscent of a similar achievement back in June 2022, underscores Eskom’s commitment to bolstering energy provision and ultimately phasing out load shedding altogether.

Operational Enhancements

• Ongoing Developments: Eskom has pledged ongoing updates, with the next one scheduled for Sunday.
• Strategic Maintenance: They are tactically handling 14,264MW of generating capacity to manage unplanned outages, while 5,370MW remains under planned maintenance.

Mobilizing Managers Eskom’s power station managers are working around the clock to expedite the recovery of additional generation capacity. This entails reviving units sidelined by unforeseen outages as well as those under scheduled maintenance, aiming to restore a substantial 2,070MW by the end of the week.

Energy Consumption Advisory The energy supplier’s peak demand for tonight is projected at 28,655MW. Eskom appreciates customers who are conservatively using electricity, especially those turning off non-essential devices between 5 PM and 9 PM. This collective effort helps mitigate the power grid’s load, effectively minimizing the need for future load shedding.
