Eskom’s Power Struggles Intensify
Weekend Power Woes: Brace yourselves as Eskom escalates its load-shedding to stages 3 and 4 this weekend. Setbacks in the utility’s generating fleet have led to significant power generation challenges.
- Generating Setbacks: Six units down and delays in reviving three more have left a gaping hole of 23,400MW in power capacity.
- Current Outages: “Unplanned outages are currently at 15,561MW of generating capacity, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 7,828MW,” Eskom reveals in a distressing update.
Load-Shedding Schedule:
- Stage 3: Begins at 16:00 on Friday, lasting until the same time on Saturday.
- Stage 4: Takes over from Saturday 16:00 until early Sunday morning at 05:00.
- Back to Stage 3: Sunday morning sees a temporary relief, reverting to Stage 3 until 16:00.
- Stage 4 Resumes: The evening brings back Stage 4 load-shedding.
Efforts to Restore Capacity: The power utility’s station managers are laboriously working to bring back 1,960MW of generating capacity by Monday evening.
