Eskom’s Temporary Reprieve Extended
JOHANNESBURG: Eskom, South Africa’s main electricity provider, has announced a brief extension of the current load-shedding hiatus. The suspension of power cuts will continue until the early hours of Monday, 11 December 2023.
This Week’s Load-Shedding Plan
- Daylight Hours (Monday – Thursday): Stage 3 load-shedding from 5:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
- Overnight: Escalation to Stage 4 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
Reason for Higher Stages
- The move to higher stages during the week is attributed to the usual increase in demand and the necessity for more extensive planned maintenance.
Current Power Status
- Planned Maintenance: 7,319MW of capacity is currently offline.
- Unplanned Breakdowns: An additional 12,884MW of capacity is not available due to breakdowns.
Note for Consumers
Eskom urges consumers to stay informed as the power situation remains fluid, and adjustments to the load-shedding schedule may occur based on the power grid’s status.
